Changing a Bridge Record window

Changing a Bridge Record window

This is the primary record for this bridge. It contains profile information and attributes that describe its' physical characteristics and inspection rating.

The Update Bridge form lets you describe each bridget under your jurisdiction and, when latitude and longitude are determined, link it to a map of your city or county.   To determine the latitude and longitude location of your bridges, first, Run the GIS, Click on Utilities and Measure Map (on Menu Bar), then move crosshairs to bridge location - popup window displays lat/Longitude.

R&B IMS© licenses the IrfanView© (IView) graphics engine for viewing images.   The default location for your Bridge images is under the main Road & Bridge program, then under the DATA\IMAGES, and finally, under the appropriate folder name.

The file naming convention utilizes long file names (more than 8 characters long).   If you are using a long file name, for example; Project 98-02 you may need to rename it with Windows Explorer (only once) in order for the file to be automatically loaded when you click the View button, on the detail cost record update window.   Depending on the camera, scanner or other method utilized for your (.TIF) graphic image Windows/DOS may attach the long file name properly.   Give us a call, or your camera/scanner/etc. vendor if you have a problem.   Remember, the proper subdirectories for your images are in the IMAGE folder which is under your DATA folder.:

The View Bridge button activates the licensed IrfanView© Imaging engine and links the specific image file for viewing.   The steps necessary to load a Bridge image varies from simply copying existing .TIF files (Tagged Image Format File) and renaming them to the Bridge Number with extension of .TIF to importing directly from a camera .TIF format or scanning existing photographs on a TWAIN compliant scanner and naming them to the Bridge Number, with extension of .TIF.   Follow the directions that come with your TWAIN compliant scanner or Camera for creating the image in .TIF file format.   Also, the built-in MicroSoft HELP provides other generic information under Scanners, Camera, Image, Graphics (keywords).

The .TIF (also called TIFF) graphics format is used because it allows you to annotate the images and attach other working information; thereby making the graphics module much more useful.

1.   The graphic image must reside in the DATA folder under your main Road & Bridge program - \DATA\IMAGES\Bridge

2.   Your graphic image must be named the same as the

Bridge Number (with the .TIF extension).

3.   You cannot use a . (period) in the Bridge Number

because the DOS filenaming convention will not

understand it.   If you currently are using a period

change it to an underscore ( _ ) for both the Bridge

Number and file name.

To setup your TWAIN compliant scanner or camera under IrrfanView© Imaging Engine, first start IrfanView©, then click the File menu selection.   If you already have a TWAIN compliant scanner attached, Select Scanner will be readable; click on it and select your scanner.   This should put you in business.   If Select Scanner is not readable you either do not have a TWAIN complaint scanner attached or it is not properly set up and configured.   Refer to you scanner manual for setup steps.

The graphics file can be in any graphics format and must be properly named to match the Bridge Number and must be in the bridge number and be located in the DATA\IMAGES\Bridge subdirectory

An example for Bridge Number 09-92882 would be with the image extension added; i.e., 09-92882.jpg (or any image format).

When you are looking at the data record that represents Bridge 09-92882 and click the View Bridge Button the IrfanView© Graphics rendering engine will start and load file 09-92882.TIF and display it on your screen.

If you want to make several different images of the same Bridge then add a character or number; i.e. 09-92882 (second picture) would be 09-92882-A.TIF, etc.   To load other graphic images (other than the first) you will need to use the File Open menu selection and look in the Bridge subdirectory for this particular (or other) file.   There is no limitation on number of pictures you may have for an individual Bridge.     If you need to rename files that are longer than the eight character convention you must use MS Explorer or rename through your Graphics/Scanner/Camera software.

Clicking the Maintenance History TAB brings up a cumulative historical record of the dates, work done and costs for maintenance on this Bridge.   In order for this to work you must enter the Bridge Number in the Cost Accounting record (or Funds Uses screen) in the Road/Street name field when entering the cost detail for work done on this particular Bridge.
